FAQS

Can soap be 100% organic?

No. Not only can a soap not be 100% organic, but it is not possible for a soap to even reach the 95% requirement for an “organic” label. This is due to the chemistry of soap and how it is made. Bar soaps require sodium hydroxide (NaOH), or lye, and it makes up 10-15% of the ingredients by weight. As a result, even if every other ingredient in the soap was organic, the organic content would still be only 90% at most. Any soap and many other skin care products that claim to be “100% organic” or “organic” are misleading. Furthermore, any company that claims not to use lye for their soaps is either providing false information, or lacks knowledge about the actual production process.
